Shevington Parish Council will be holding a short ceremony to unveil a memorial plaque in memory of Dr Surman on Friday 21 August at 1.00 pm.
Dr Surman was a much-respected local doctor who served the Shevington community and is also remembered for his important role in helping to establish Wigan Hospice.
The plaque will be installed by the tree outside the dispensary on Gathurst Lane. The ceremony is expected to be small and informal, with members of Dr Surman’s family also in attendance.
Residents and representatives from local community groups are welcome to attend and join the Council in marking the occasion.
