About Us

About Shevington Parish Council

Shevington Parish Council is the local council serving the parish of Shevington, including Appley Bridge, Gathurst, Shevington Moor, Crooke Village and Shevington Vale.

We work on behalf of residents to look after local facilities, support community activity and raise issues that matter locally.

What we do

The Parish Council focuses on local services and issues that affect day-to-day life in the parish. This includes:

  • Managing and maintaining parish-owned land and facilities, such as parks, play areas and allotments

  • Supporting community groups, events and local initiatives

  • Representing residents’ views to Wigan Council and other organisations

  • Commenting on planning applications within the parish

  • Managing the parish budget and setting the annual precept

  • Helping to improve the local environment and public spaces

Community

Shevington Parish Council also supports a wide range of local activity that helps bring the community together and maintain pride in the parish.

This includes providing grants and practical support to local groups and events, including Shevington Fete, supporting Remembrance Sunday commemorations, helping with seasonal planting and planters across the parish, and backing initiatives that improve the local environment and community life.

Alongside this, the Council works with residents, volunteers and community organisations to support local projects, respond to local concerns and help keep Shevington a well-cared-for place to live.
