Shevington Luncheon Club . . .
.
. . is looking for some help.
The Club meets
every Wednesday at Shevington Youth Club,
from 11.30am to 3.00pm. There is a regular attendance of about 20 Honoured
Citizens (60+). There is plenty of time for chat. The club meets on 44
occasions each year – 4 weeks off in the summer, and 4 weeks off around
Christmas.
The activities –
members enjoy a lunch followed by bingo or dominoes. There are two raffle
prizes each week and several bingo prizes.
In addition, the
members go out on several coach trips each year.
Members pay
£4.75 each week which covers the cost of the meal, the prizes, hire of
the hall and the trips.
The club needs a
bit of secretarial and administrative help.
Each week there
are the contributions to be collected and totalled. They need to be banked
every two or three weeks.
In addition, orders for the following week’s meals need to be taken and
phoned in to Leigh Infirmary kitchens.
When there is a trip in view, the payments from outsiders need to be collected
– members don’t pay. Around 40 people go on the trips of whom,
perhaps, 25 may be outsiders.
The secretary, Rosemary,
will still be attending and in general charge; but she does go on holiday, and
can find some of the work rather onerous.
Commitment? I think that an hour a week on about 30
occasions a year would be the kind of help needed, and would involve collecting
the money, banking it from time to time, helping with the meal ordering and
with the organisation of the trips; other assistance can be by arrangement.
Honoured citizens
don’t always welcome change, and a tactful approach would go down well.
The club has been meeting for around 30 years and so has a history. On the
other hand the building could cater for a few more members, so an interest in
seeking out persons who might otherwise be on their own would be helpful.
